Result
The Working Group Meeting on the improvement methodology of information collection on inland small-scale fisheries, Cambodia was organized at Fisheries Administration (FiA), Cambodia on 21 November 2011, to improve understanding of methodologies for collection and compilation of information on inland small-scale fisheries in Cambodia. The meeting was attended by 10 representatives of FiA Cambodia, and 5 representatives of SEAFDEC/TD. Ms. Kaing Klrim, Deputy Director General of FiA Cambodia welcomed the participants and declared the Meeting open.
Ms. Sumitra Ruangsivakul kindly explained the background, objectives, project activities in 2011, proposed activities in 2012 and expected outcome of project. SEAFDEC have project on “Improvement of Information Gathering System for IUU-Fishing Related Countermeasures in the Southeast Asia”, which sponsored by Japanese Trust Fund from 2011 to 2015. There are three main activities, and one activity is Improve information gathering on small-scale coastal and inland fisheries towards sustainable fisheries development in the Southeast Asian Region.
The working group meeting was one sub-activity of Improve information gathering on small-scale coastal and inland fisheries towards sustainable fisheries development in SEA Region, to improve better understanding and knowledge of tools and methodologies for collection and compilation of information and statistics on inland fisheries in Cambodia, and further preparatory a National workshop. In addition, Ms. Kaing Klrim mentioned on the methodology system on data collection in inland fisheries in Cambodia are as follow:
1. Individual interview or household survey2. Group discussion or PRA
3. Fisheries logbook
4. Monitoring with Leader of Community Fisheries
Then, Ms. Sumitra proposed draft of the questionnaire for Inland data collection in Cambodia. The meeting suggested adding the question on Fisheries Conservation and management to the questionnaire. The meeting submitted the working group to cooperate with SEAFDEC/TD namely, Mr. Hong Hy, Mr. Uy Ching and Mr. Lieng Sopha. FiA’s working group and SEAFDEC/TD will develop draft questionnaire together by mail, and submit to FiA Cambodia in December. The meeting proposed to organize the national workshop on compilation of fisheries information and statistics on small-scale coastal and inland fisheries at Siem Reap, Cambodia at the end of January or early of February 2012. The total participants are around 20 persons (15 from FiA Cambodia and 5 from SEAFDEC/TD).
